It supports Amiga audio via AHI and plugins (called "tools" in Bars&Pipes). <b><br /></b></p><p>Users might have wondered if there's a future path for music creation with Amiga and Bars&Pipes - now we know. Alfred Faust, who had officially taken over development from Blue Ribbon Soundworks many years ago, has finished his port of Bars&Pipes to AROS, AmigaOS' portable (m68k, x86, ARM, ...) sibling. This was possible after AROS chief developer Franck Charlet updated AROS' camd.library (Commodore Amiga MIDI driver library) to work with camdusbmidi.class of AROS' USB stack (Poseidon). </p><p>Which means that not only does Bars&Pipes now run on AROS, securing future use, and giving access to massive CPU and hardware resources to create sound, but also that Amiga/AROS music software using camd.library can now access USB MIDI devices!</p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPapPsL-Jk6oBxvbb9qiXfaht3sq8EESdhDsBDY2d-FlSZgi9VXap-9IK1BImAbA9DH4Vyl7jATRTH46I25rQZF1UuJIcBe1fBh8Us12YeDekVsRNYEdkr45CBNCWkKihOQ_XraLZFIiz89opj7o5nZ5KWI8_RUsZT2VI82x9z-YE4zKV3yVHjSlcWLjc/s714/bars-and-pipes-2.5-alfred-faust.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="467" data-original-width="714" height="209" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPapPsL-Jk6oBxvbb9qiXfaht3sq8EESdhDsBDY2d-FlSZgi9VXap-9IK1BImAbA9DH4Vyl7jATRTH46I25rQZF1UuJIcBe1fBh8Us12YeDekVsRNYEdkr45CBNCWkKihOQ_XraLZFIiz89opj7o5nZ5KWI8_RUsZT2VI82x9z-YE4zKV3yVHjSlcWLjc/s320/bars-and-pipes-2.5-alfred-faust.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Bars&Pipes Pro 2.5b from 1994 on AmigaOS<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p><b>That's very good news indeed - big Thank You to Alfred Faust, Franck

But there is a surprisingly simple solution!</b></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOr1UHmHU2JViEbXR-HZpvX0VwoEb_yGhuzIbzqjPS6I7FZR0ISk2Mj3y1pMV_38IVViM5YMA287YI99TldzFPHQXNzSZF0ilvKzSnt5opzcsSvU6kjV0wnOuKg1_AgQ7WM9kIzlprlJTC4dWl4blQFYw2sZr_xA0QBVUNtUrDQ6B8yv8R0M19m2mDbWI/s507/virtualgp-1995-mousepointer.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="341" data-original-width="507" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOr1UHmHU2JViEbXR-HZpvX0VwoEb_yGhuzIbzqjPS6I7FZR0ISk2Mj3y1pMV_38IVViM5YMA287YI99TldzFPHQXNzSZF0ilvKzSnt5opzcsSvU6kjV0wnOuKg1_AgQ7WM9kIzlprlJTC4dWl4blQFYw2sZr_xA0QBVUNtUrDQ6B8yv8R0M19m2mDbWI/s320/virtualgp-1995-mousepointer.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">VirtualGP is an OS-friendly game - mouse-pointer stays on screen.<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p></p><p>Having the mouse-pointer on screen during gameplay hurts the player's immersion, but VirtualGP is an OS-friendly program, it doesn't shut down Workbench, only grabs mouse input for proper proportional control when driving the car - so the pointer gets stuck in full view, an that's it. Not so nice. Did author Paolo Cattani miss this? Or even ignore it?</p><p>Of course he didn't - in fact quite the opposite, the game integrates with the OS near perfectly. The solution is simple, and actually just as much in full view as the pointer is, because it's in the pointer itself: AmigaOS is still running! :-)</p><p>And it has pretty good keyboard pointer control: <b>Hold Left-Amiga key, and use cursor keys to move mouse-pointer to the bottom of the screen!</b> (Hold Shift, too, to accelerate.)</p><p>Maybe this makes your VirtualGP racing sessions even more fun. ;-)</p><p> </p>romanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09625387430399942647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205727289992932799.post-40506720142705006862024-01-21T07:15:00.000-08:002024-01-21T07:15:41.270-08:00Games galore #40: Rogue Declan: Zero, Creeping Me Out: Hex Night update, Ring around the World, Final Fight Enhanced update, Geo's Quest: In Search of Queen Lorraine, Memory Lane<b>Amiga game development has sped up considerably over the last couple of years, with the help of new game engines like RedPill and Scorpion Engine, and many developers re-joining the Amiga scene.<br /></b><p></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Rogue Declan: Zero</h2><p style="text-align: left;">In July 2023, "Rogue Declan: Zero" was <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnbKKsjwA7E" target="_blank">officially released by Nivrig Games</a>. Tons of new Amiga games have popped up in 2023, and we're still trying to keep up. <br /></b></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Tapper </h2><p style="text-align: left;">Very good, in May 2023 another arcade classic got properly ported to the Amiga: "Tapper" from 1983, which was previously available for many other platforms.</p><p style="text-align: left;">It's a quick and fun game in which your job is to supply your pub's customers with adequate amounts of beer. Some just want a glass full, others need the extra pint, and you never know how many will ask for a drink at the same time. So things might get hectic in this game, and the new port to Amiga is pretty much arcade-perfect. <br /></p><p style="text-align: left;">Here's a video from YouTube channel <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@Saberman" target="_blank">Saberman RetroNews</a> (2023-05-26):</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Uf7SMiGiTR8" width="320" youtube-src-id="Uf7SMiGiTR8"></iframe><br />https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uf7SMiGiTR8</div><p style="text-align: left;"><b>Check video, and sources below, for more information, <br />or just click here to download "Tapper": </b><br /><a href="https://mega.nz/file/C5s2iTqL#lWpWrL2huZUm-ZrzyMB-rJ27YKzGAXsZ0RnQ-6aTDEo" target="_blank">https://mega.nz/file/C5s2iTqL#lWpWrL2huZUm-ZrzyMB-rJ27YKzGAXsZ0RnQ-6aTDEo</a></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><span style="font-size: x-small;">Additional sources: <br />https://www.amigafuture.de/app.php/newsportal/?start=0&ulg=de&news_id=40945<br />http://amiga-news.de/de/news/AN-2023-05-00135-DE.html<br />https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapper_(video_game)<br /><br /><br /></span><h2 style="text-align: left;">Galaxian 500 </h2><p>And here's yet another arcade classic: With "Galaxian 500", highly active developer Jean-Francois 'jotd' Fabre adds another member to the awesome series of his "500" ports. "Galaxian" is an advanced variation of "Space Invaders". Just like Jean-Francois' previous works, it looks pretty much identical to the arcade version, and plays as good. <br /></p><p style="text-align: left;">Here's a video from YouTube channel <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@Saberman" target="_blank">Saberman RetroNews</a> (2023-06-17):</p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iE97fN0RQbs" width="320" youtube-src-id="iE97fN0RQbs"></iframe><br />https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iE97fN0RQbs</div><p></p><p><b>Go to the game's itch.io website for more information, and download:<br /><a href="https://jotd666.itch.io/galaxian500" target="_blank">https://jotd666.itch.io/galaxian500<br /></a></b></p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;">Additional sources:<br />http://amiga-news.de/de/news/AN-2023-05-00139-DE.html<br />https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaxian<br /></span><br /></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Freak Out (work-in-progress)</h2><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p style="text-align: left;">'<span class="yt-core-attributed-string yt-core-attributed-string--white-space-pre-wrap" role="text">If "Pong" and "Breakout" had a baby...' - that's how author </span>Michael Kafke <span class="yt-core-attributed-string yt-core-attributed-string--white-space-pre-wrap" role="text">describes his creation, and this description is quite accurate. (Not to be confused with the <a href="https://amiga.abime.net/games/view/freak-out" target="_blank">1993 game of the same name</a>.) Maybe </span><span class="yt-core-attributed-string yt-core-attributed-string--white-space-pre-wrap" role="text">"Freak Out"</span><span class="yt-core-attributed-string yt-core-attributed-string--white-space-pre-wrap" role="text"> is closer to "Arkanoid" than to classic "Breakout", and certainly it has more colors than the original "Pong", but that's just the details. The game is still work-in-progress, for example there's very little sound yet, but it looks fine with its clean playfield design and detailed, yet unobtrusive, background imagery. Also it's already playable, and has a nice presentation, so... yeah, very good, (don't) freak out!<br /></span></p><p style="text-align: left;">Here's a video from <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@MichaelKafke" target="_blank">Michael Kafke's YouTube channel</a> (2022-07-11):</p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/L-DrqzpePa4" width="320" youtube-src-id="L-DrqzpePa4"></iframe><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-DrqzpePa4</span></div><p></p><p style="text-align: left;"> </p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Settle the World </h2><p style="text-align: left;">Around Aug. 2022 developer Christian 'TheoTheoderich' Wiegel announced his turn-based strategy game "Settle the World", and has been working on it since, releasing a number of videos. </p><p style="text-align: left;">Most obviously, the graphics are stunning. Interestingly, according to the description of a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9ei-ArcB_0" target="_blank">four hour development log video that was released by the author in Nov. 2023</a>, they were created using artificial intelligence. Does this mark the first time AI has been used to create content for an Amiga game? The beautiful imagery in the game intro is accompanied by a tasteful and fitting soundtrack, the user interface looks pleasant and functional. "Settle the World" is already a quality production, and is still under further development, ensuring a very enjoyable experience for Amiga strategists. <br /><br />The game requires an Amiga with 1MB ChipRAM, 4MB FastRAM, and a hard disk. Some CPU upgrade is recommended.<br /><br />Here's a video from the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@TheTheoTheoderich" target="_blank">author's YouTube channel</a> (2023-02-11):</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-eK596gjAX4" width="320" youtube-src-id="-eK596gjAX4"></iframe><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eK596gjAX4</span></div><p><b>Go to the game's itch.io pages for more information and download:<br /><a href="https://theotheoderich.itch.io/settle-the-world" target="_blank">https://theotheoderich.itch.io/settle-the-world</a></b></p><p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Additional sources:<br />http://amiga-news.de/de/news/AN-2023-07-00078-DE.html<br />https://amigaportal.de/index.php?threads/settle-the-world.682/<br /><br /></span></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Boxx remake, Boxx 2 remake, Boxx 3 remake, Boxx 4<br /></h2><p style="text-align: left;">Get boxxed! The Boxx games are a series of platform games with a nice selection of game mechanics, simple, but cute and effective graphics, and a couple of strategy elements. The average Amigan might get confused by the extraordinary high number of "Boxx" games, but in the end that doesn't matter. What matters is that all "Boxx" games are equally fun to play, and suitable for players of any age. If you like your platformers smooth, and with a little bit of thinking, you'll love the "Boxxes". <br /></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE8LPe9_majPPnba6JQ1b91B8inbzPTPB3HOxFl7pjuhqLrsTyFmhHLEhQqnngDLQNmz1tSjSRm3Bo3sS27FZlUsRMJWNkMvh8cDpdmvcWn8MBlM0Ofy-g5t_RsMoM_OKrftVGpL4VulPw_abDD6qGDrn7H2WTpjdPfx8Ca4MYVS5IKQkH-CHhGKS2Ryc/s829/boxx-3-remake-beta0.2-ingame-20230817.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="602" data-original-width="829" height="232" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE8LPe9_majPPnba6JQ1b91B8inbzPTPB3HOxFl7pjuhqLrsTyFmhHLEhQqnngDLQNmz1tSjSRm3Bo3sS27FZlUsRMJWNkMvh8cDpdmvcWn8MBlM0Ofy-g5t_RsMoM_OKrftVGpL4VulPw_abDD6qGDrn7H2WTpjdPfx8Ca4MYVS5IKQkH-CHhGKS2Ryc/s320/boxx-3-remake-beta0.2-ingame-20230817.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Boxx 3 remake, v0.2 beta, Aug. 2023<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p style="text-align: left;">Boxx remake</p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p><a href="https://lemming880.itch.io/boxxremake" target="_blank">https://lemming880.itch.io/boxxremake</a></p><p><a href="http://aminet.net/package/game/jump/Boxx" target="_blank">http://aminet.net/package/game/jump/Boxx</a> (2015 game) <br /></p><p>Boxx 2 remake</p><p><a href="https://lemming880.itch.io/boxx2remake" target="_blank">https://lemming880.itch.io/boxx2remake</a></p><p><a href="http://aminet.net/package/game/jump/Boxx2" target="_blank">http://aminet.net/package/game/jump/Boxx2</a> (2015 game) <br /></p><p></p><p>Boxx 3 remake</p><p></p><p style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://lemming880.itch.io/boxx3remake" target="_blank">https://lemming880.itch.io/boxx3remake</a></p><p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://aminet.net/package/game/jump/Boxx3" target="_blank">http://aminet.net/package/game/jump/Boxx3</a> (2017 game)<br /></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p>Boxx 4 </p><p><a href="https://lemming880.itch.io/boxx4" target="_blank">https://lemming880.itch.io/boxx4</a></p><p style="text-align: left;">Here's a video of "Boxx 4" from YouTube channel <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@osdane4736" target="_blank">OSDane</a> (2023-07-19):<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6OPr8iS9w0o" width="320" youtube-src-id="6OPr8iS9w0o"></iframe><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OPr8iS9w0o</span></div><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br />Additional sources:<br />http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2023-04-00079-EN.html <br />http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2023-09-00043-EN.html <br />http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2023-07-00055-EN.html </span><p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"> </span></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Megafrog (work-in-progress)<br /></h2><p>Around Nov. 2022, author Friar85 released this nice variation of the classic Frogger arcade game. Have you ever played "Crossy Roads"? Then you have an idea about "Megafrog". In "Megafrog", most things are a little bit bigger than in Frogger, in fact the screen scrolls vertically, meaning you'll need an extra bit of endurance to master the game. Also there are a lot more features than classic Frogger ever had, like crossings, and cars at different speeds. </p><p>It's been quite a while since we last heard from the game, but the preview looks smooth and solid. "Megafrog" runs on any Amiga. A little CPU upgrade (14MHz or better) is recommended, and a 2-button joystick is supported.</p><p>Here's a video from YouTube channel <a class="yt-simple-endpoint style-scope yt-formatted-string" dir="auto" href="https://www.youtube.com/@Saberman" spellcheck="false" target="_blank">Saberman RetroNews</a> (2022-11-01):<br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TNVk9HnTx4E" width="320" youtube-src-id="TNVk9HnTx4E"></iframe><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNVk9HnTx4E</span></div><p></p><p><b>Go to game's itch.io pages for more information and download:<br /><a href="https://friar85.itch.io/megafrog" target="_blank">https://friar85.itch.io/megafrog </a></b><br /><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">Additional sources:<br />http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2022-11-00018-EN.html<br />https://www.indieretronews.com/2022/11/megafrog-amiga-work-in-progress-frogger.html</span><br /> <b></b></p><p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"> </span></p><div style="text-align: center;"><b>* * *</b></div>

"Dance of the Stumblers" is a staggeringly beautiful, dynamic Amiga-generated animation that just has to be seen.</b></p><p>According to the video's description/comments, Mr. Segal <span style="font-size: x-small;">(no, not the similarly named actor)</span>, award-winning animator and filmmaker, created this animation with Aegis Animator on an Amiga 1000, using cues that he had written down from the music track beforehand. Due to high demands on the hardware, playback was slow, so it was set to 1 frame per second, and photographed at the same rate with an animation camera. It's a wild variation of the classic Breakout idea, complete with 3D, flamethrower, and pumping music. Being a next-gen-Amiga game, the visual quality and number of objects moving on screen exceeds pretty much anything seen on classic Amigas. "VoxelNoid" has a lot of action, but it is done with simplicity and a tad of elegance. It's a side-scrolling shoot-em-up somehow typical for its time - which means it's also an arcade classic. The Amiga version is still work-in-progress, but it already looks pretty much 100% like the original version. </p><p style="text-align: left;">Final system requirements haven't been set, currently the game runs on all Amigas with 1MB, with the author hinting at maybe slightly higher CPU demands as development progresses.<br /></p><p style="text-align: left;">Here's the latest "Breakthru" WIP video from <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@Acidbottle" target="_blank">AcidBottle 0101's YouTube channel</a> (2023-05-14): <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zmy0NFyq3GA" width="320" youtube-src-id="zmy0NFyq3GA"></iframe><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmy0NFyq3GA</span></div><p></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Additional sources:<br />https://dataeast.fandom.com/wiki/BreakThru<br />https://www.indieretronews.com/2023/04/breakthru-amiga-port-of-data-east.html<br />https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=114151<br /><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><div style="text-align: left;"><h2 style="text-align: left;">Xevious and Super Xevious<br /></h2><p style="text-align: left;">1982 vertically scrolling shoot-em-up "Xevious" is another arcade classic (albeit far more successful than the aforementioned "BreakThru"), and a favorite of many retro gamers. It never got officially ported to the Amiga, but thanks to the efforts of developers tcdev, jotd, and no9, who carefully recreated the game's code and music, we can now play it in perfect arcade quality on our Amiga machines. This remake also includes "Super Xevious", the sequel to the original game.<br /></p><p style="text-align: left;">Here's a video from YouTube channel <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@Saberman" target="_blank">Saberman RetroNews</a> (2023-06-23):</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/p0F_LU9J3bk" width="320" youtube-src-id="p0F_LU9J3bk"></iframe><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0F_LU9J3bk</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"> </div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Go to the game's itch.io website for more information, and download:<br /><a href="https://jotd666.itch.io/xevious1200">https://jotd666.itch.io/xevious1200</a></b><br /></div><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Additional sources:<br />https://amiga.abime.net/games/view/xevious<br />http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=110262<br /><br /></span></p><h2 style="text-align: left;"></h2><p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"></span></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">AmiSnakes</h2><p style="text-align: left;">"AmiSnakes" is a simple, fun parallax scrolling snake game that was released around April 2023. Feb. 2023, a game that wasn't became a game that is: "Bertie's Animal

released about 20 years ago, but got washed away in the shrinking,
dissolving Amiga market of the time. Now it has been rediscovered and
re-released (for free).<br /></p><p style="text-align: left;">It's a quiz game, in which you have to guess animal names. And it's surprisingly good!</b><p>Development of "Denise" seems to date back to around 2017, when it started as a Commodore 64 emulator. In March 2023 author PiCiJi released version 2.0, which adds Amiga 500 and 1000 emulation. Running Fedora Linux, I gave it a quick try.<br /></p><p>Apart from downloading and extracting the archive, no program installation was required. Just double-clicking "Denise" program icon, and selecting Kickstart ROM file and ADF in the preferences, I was able to nicely play a round of "Tinyus", with sound, and without any glitches or performance issues (i7-4790T, 2.7GHz). </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8VVeVXPUUOFbKemOMWjRmpJQeDYuIG2_r_RCNAJ-iU2fRF0gWgHg1iq_la5MAxWKbBQLBUi70E22BSLZvNRxy2VGOQ2Gk5rZ6CkNK5_7Fay7kxVp7cqregjrSVD3OXbQInVTpAAhuYlBgpF7_13P2UFtolB1vf351Ak54L9pCUN5Zgx6rpU7DipS8/s1320/amiga-denise-emu-01-startup-tinyus.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="1320" height="194" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8VVeVXPUUOFbKemOMWjRmpJQeDYuIG2_r_RCNAJ-iU2fRF0gWgHg1iq_la5MAxWKbBQLBUi70E22BSLZvNRxy2VGOQ2Gk5rZ6CkNK5_7Fay7kxVp7cqregjrSVD3OXbQInVTpAAhuYlBgpF7_13P2UFtolB1vf351Ak54L9pCUN5Zgx6rpU7DipS8/s320/amiga-denise-emu-01-startup-tinyus.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Double-click icon, select Kickstart ROM, select ADF, and play. Nice!<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p>"Denise" has a little bit of history, which certainly helps when a new
emulated platform is created. Preference and menus need a little more work (localization, graphics), but nothing's missing, and everything (still) looks very clearly structured with the added Amiga-related items. (Most?) changes to preferences take effect immediately.</p><p>When playing "Tinyus", I had to make a little change to the input
configuration: "Tinyus" needs the Space-bar key, which is occupied by
Joystick-Fire-Button per default. Assigning a new key just took a couple
of seconds without reading instructions. Perfect.</p><p> </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnfTC6aE0kVI09KDMXz4z43kCFpWwAyFI_zG-ZHMILVYWRb0ptxR2uijCDFCZ51oaK31sa0_z55dHaU478LNcY8GG_RCy0S0Ayo5V0BqvlIbr4RMbj_x_fqwhRzy0IVcoASpyfFzyth3E3t-sYSIyyCN-LTGDFJykvwTPr_ldp4JV7yxW0_iQkQFUv/s993/amiga-denise-emu-02-prefs.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="739" data-original-width="993" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnfTC6aE0kVI09KDMXz4z43kCFpWwAyFI_zG-ZHMILVYWRb0ptxR2uijCDFCZ51oaK31sa0_z55dHaU478LNcY8GG_RCy0S0Ayo5V0BqvlIbr4RMbj_x_fqwhRzy0IVcoASpyfFzyth3E3t-sYSIyyCN-LTGDFJykvwTPr_ldp4JV7yxW0_iQkQFUv/s320/amiga-denise-emu-02-prefs.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">"Denise" preferences: C64 and Amiga cores<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p>"Denise" feels as if it has been designed with a lot of modularity in mind. For example it looks as if the (emulated)
video output section from the existing C64 emulation is being used for
Amiga video, too - which totally makes sense, as both machines generate
quite similar video signals. And there is a "core selection" setting - future new cores can probably be expected.</p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrg9v0SC-CGO_vhxCsz2ZvLUHX_KmPMneN1vIQ3lQPfNghlqui3q8EW0mgarc5FRMF32Q5xRuoYEBkT1sZZkS6mnvjG2ZmK8uo0N7wLNJqHk-CcIW0-mEk1l5u_umJTNRQo3OKCX-UCyipsFj_uDWQ5I4Bj8lwz-s3wbmpSmC4l4bhWYd1yQmK8xfl/s1334/amiga-denise-emu-03-amiga-prefs.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="840" data-original-width="1334" height="201" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrg9v0SC-CGO_vhxCsz2ZvLUHX_KmPMneN1vIQ3lQPfNghlqui3q8EW0mgarc5FRMF32Q5xRuoYEBkT1sZZkS6mnvjG2ZmK8uo0N7wLNJqHk-CcIW0-mEk1l5u_umJTNRQo3OKCX-UCyipsFj_uDWQ5I4Bj8lwz-s3wbmpSmC4l4bhWYd1yQmK8xfl/s320/amiga-denise-emu-03-amiga-prefs.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">More "Denise" preferences<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p>Emulation performance was perfect with "Tinyus", which is also reflected by SysInfo's speed test results: "Denise" runs cycle-exact. <span style="font-size: x-small;">(No further performance tests were done by me at the current point in time.)</span></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8rtiCqSXCjRRT7jmgPGX9QIQ7D5udZDWLpVo2I22i_o1rdCuLCjjOLVJ105W7gBwEgBcu3xvHcKjKFEOryZhyYq9BeEI0UiOvuBLSf2bkA5HcaCMHqSUDTN8YgVPfF0ilfjYyXbiVFt8Dz3UNnlzevltDR05gdcxs-AzbpfRkwkjCRBN3XpVxXkqq/s802/amiga-denise-emu-05-sysinfo.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="675" data-original-width="802" height="269" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8rtiCqSXCjRRT7jmgPGX9QIQ7D5udZDWLpVo2I22i_o1rdCuLCjjOLVJ105W7gBwEgBcu3xvHcKjKFEOryZhyYq9BeEI0UiOvuBLSf2bkA5HcaCMHqSUDTN8YgVPfF0ilfjYyXbiVFt8Dz3UNnlzevltDR05gdcxs-AzbpfRkwkjCRBN3XpVxXkqq/s320/amiga-denise-emu-05-sysinfo.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">SysInfo: That looks pretty cycle-accurate.<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p></p><p>To round it up, here's a shot of "Denise"'s C64 emulation running "Destroyer", and the C64 settings window.</p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQpjEEvxkcnYW1FTg_AOmV8KHPslKa9Xp3cpdxydRU5y-ZFdvTbNAhEWg3YnZwFegBq2uofxuGUtW4VC1zFc1chuX7-wSp65nh3_8cREHQcOe1C-JMLdwL9zqbjT-plX9TN5w3wI0xuoe3cLz9QhRRE96p3blbZIOyPYidQjilTJGJmrAOW3XKJNU9/s1240/amiga-denise-emu-04-c64-prefs.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1016" data-original-width="1240" height="262" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQpjEEvxkcnYW1FTg_AOmV8KHPslKa9Xp3cpdxydRU5y-ZFdvTbNAhEWg3YnZwFegBq2uofxuGUtW4VC1zFc1chuX7-wSp65nh3_8cREHQcOe1C-JMLdwL9zqbjT-plX9TN5w3wI0xuoe3cLz9QhRRE96p3blbZIOyPYidQjilTJGJmrAOW3XKJNU9/s320/amiga-denise-emu-04-c64-prefs.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">"Denise" C64 emulation and preferences<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p></p><p><b>It's still a bit rough around the edges, and a bit limited, but, wow, "Denise" is a fantastic new Amiga 500 and 1000 emulator! Very good!<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixGmm1QUa3F0ZjT4i6rFGoWxTTn4myn6LiRd7YiNKVkH855g-kNBpII714EXd-l-K7jGKfw7dlZMdnFOCsYxhZQggEbTZ36ZlaaM_3pWiuVO2_syP4DIQs0BmIwHQI7eJFFKQqljZ-JUCr-zkHwGja29rGFNl12DtNx9OiYENVlCHYJIHJz_xSsDNE/s677/luma.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="550" data-original-width="677" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixGmm1QUa3F0ZjT4i6rFGoWxTTn4myn6LiRd7YiNKVkH855g-kNBpII714EXd-l-K7jGKfw7dlZMdnFOCsYxhZQggEbTZ36ZlaaM_3pWiuVO2_syP4DIQs0BmIwHQI7eJFFKQqljZ-JUCr-zkHwGja29rGFNl12DtNx9OiYENVlCHYJIHJz_xSsDNE/s320/luma.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p style="text-align: left;"><b>Go to the game's itch.io website for more information and download:<br /><a href="https://zooperdan.itch.io/luma-amiga" target="_blank">https://zooperdan.itch.io/luma-amiga</a></b></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Additional sources:<br />http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2022-11-00061-EN.html</span><br /></p><p style="text-align: left;"><br /></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Cecconoid (and Eugatron)<br /></h2><p style="text-align: left;">"Cybernoid" is a 1987 Hewson multi-screen shoot-em-up game that was released for many 8-bit platforms, Atari ST, and Amiga. It's a multi-screen platformer similar to <a href="https://amigaalive.blogspot.com/2021/10/games-galore-26-abu-simbel-profanation.html" target="_blank">"The Abu Simbel Profanation"</a>: You have to guide your game character safely through various hazards like moving platforms, spiky obstacles, or dangerous animals. The game looks very nice indeed, it has some truly epic sound effects, and it appears to be reasonably hard to play, with some potential for frustration. Very tempting!<br /><p><b>Here's a video from <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@Saberman">Saberman RetroNews YouTube channel</a> (2023-02-26): </b><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rIbbK3d9ufk" width="320" youtube-src-id="rIbbK3d9ufk"></iframe><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIbbK3d9ufk</span><br /></div><br /><b> You can download "Temptations" from the game's website:<br /><a href="https://s0yamigamsx.wordpress.com/temptations-dl/" target="_blank">https://s0yamigamsx.wordpress.com/temptations-dl/</a></b><br /><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">Additional sources: <br /> http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2022-10-00084-EN.html<br />http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=112194</span><br /><br /><p></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Atris</h2><p>"Atris" is a Tetris clone for your big-screen Amiga. It looks super polished with its hi-res, hi-color graphics, and some beautiful piano music is playing along as you stack tetromino upon tetromino. Beauty comes at a price, and in this case you need a reasonably upgraded Amiga: the game requires AmigaOS3.x, AHI, RTG (800x600 16-bit or better), 35MB of free RAM, and a fast CPU (100MIPS or better). <br /></p><p><b>Here's a video from YouTube channel <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/speccyCookie" target="_blank">Deathstar</a> (2022-09-11):</b></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gZ-Qwm8YyJ8" width="320" youtube-src-id="gZ-Qwm8YyJ8"></iframe><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZ-Qwm8YyJ8</span><br /></div> <p></p><p> </p><p style="text-align: left;"><b>Go to the game's itch.io website for more information and download:<br /><a href="https://8080.itch.io/atris" target="_blank">https://8080.itch.io/atris</a></b><br /> <br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">Additional sources: <br />http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2022-09-00048-EN.html</span><br /><br /></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Croaker </h2><p style="text-align: left;">Do you have any idea how many frogs die in car accidents each year? Pretty much all of them were unsatisfactory, or just way too expensive (think A4000 plus V-Lab Motion or PAR). Old PC analogue capture cards give quite good results, but device drivers and PCI slots for these are getting really rare. So - finally! - I've decided to drop my attempts with the Composite video connection, and build an S-Video adapter for the Amiga.</b></p><p>Composite video merges all video information into one wire, so its signal quality is somehow limited by design. Composite video is easily available on all Amigas (built-in, or via A520 TV Modulator), but the real disappointment happens when you see this signal recorded with some average digitizing equipment. Weak colors, red all over the place, blurred, misaligned - the results are hardly enjoyable.</p><p>The Amiga provides separate red/green/blue component signals on its DSUB23 video output, which many people (including me) use with a RGB-to-SCART cable. Such a cable gives great picture quality, but only if the receiving device a) has a SCART input connector, and b) uses the separate color components. </p><p>Among my video capturing attempts was a Terratec USB box with a SCART connector, which looked great from the outside. But it turned out it doesn't use color components, only the Composite signal provided on one of the other SCART connector pins. Blurred, washed out, ...again. Sigh. <br /></p><p></p><p>S-Video, aka Y/C, uses two wires: brightness (Y, gamma, luma, luminance), and color (C, chroma, chrominance). That doesn't sound like much on first sight (hear), but S-VHS tape recorders featuring S-Video were super expensive back in the day, and most modern analog video capture devices, including the cheap ones, have a S-Video input. So at least some improvement of picture quality can be expected just from the different specifications, and maybe from a different signal path inside the capture device.<br /></p><p>A guide on how to build a S-Video adapter for the Amiga was quickly found at Everything Amiga: <a href="https://www.everythingamiga.com/2017/02/amiga-rgb-to-s-video-adapter.html" target="_blank">https://www.everythingamiga.com/2017/02/amiga-rgb-to-s-video-adapter.html</a></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjKtvpm2-Xy-EXN6hIVAPUS9ogkGFeHClMQbV0aPQfgObrzejSpjlejlPuxQWUh0ruigzwgofGRavzbnyW6NYmtPLKFYHFAnYF3RLFhgcVTxXFa88CC6-fRv1oQcvqd8w-j_o_YJ4VUI7Vz_oT4dXZPejEhCde9hs4fyryr9TiDm2yZB_bDRs3BrUb/s640/amiga_rgb_to_svideo_circuit_thumb3_thumb.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="270" data-original-width="640" height="135" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjKtvpm2-Xy-EXN6hIVAPUS9ogkGFeHClMQbV0aPQfgObrzejSpjlejlPuxQWUh0ruigzwgofGRavzbnyW6NYmtPLKFYHFAnYF3RLFhgcVTxXFa88CC6-fRv1oQcvqd8w-j_o_YJ4VUI7Vz_oT4dXZPejEhCde9hs4fyryr9TiDm2yZB_bDRs3BrUb/s320/amiga_rgb_to_svideo_circuit_thumb3_thumb.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">S-Video adapter circuit shown at <a href="https://www.everythingamiga.com/2017/02/amiga-rgb-to-s-video-adapter.html" target="_blank">https://www.everythingamiga.com/2017/02/amiga-rgb-to-s-video-adapter.html</a> (NTSC version)<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p>The design of the circuit looks straightforward, it uses a AD724 video chip, and it adds another Composite video output which may come in handy some day. When she showed it to me, I recognized that the spring was not actually the original factory spring. It must have been broken at some point and someone replaced it by bending a bit of spring-steel wire to (nearly) match. In fact, that mechanism was not custom to the CD1200 - it was re-used from the CD32. So by comparing with a CD32 lid spring mechanism, we confirmed it was wrong and replaced the spring with one from a CD32. And, yes, it will become a game.<p><b>Merry Christmas everyone! So it's christmas, and I thought I'd pull out a couple of things from my harddrive.</b></p><p>You might have noticed this, well, <a href="https://amigaalive.blogspot.com/2022/11/aadevlog-5-will-it-become-game.html" target="_blank">attempt at a platformer</a> that goes by the name of "Wheelchair Hero". I'm working on it on-and-off, but there is actual progress. One of the issues I had postponed was some sort of rudimentary color management, meaning some basic strategy regarding palette use. Another one was to add some strategy elements, so the... game?... doesn't get too boring too quickly. Anyway - here's another work-in-progress screenshot of "Wheelchair Hero", and, yes, it looks as if this will become a game. :-)</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy2v3BmlEcjC7-EcIX3N6IBFGa-xR-bv6qY1pPPiD_SUcYTeaDj1I-5ovkdsy8QpxP6k49DiQA4EyXOZJM-rGV2wpX82lSsocnwSuBhPUW3l3oiEaq4xof7629RmRmnEjX1KeaIrTdvPA0bmQ0P05StunXTTk0khvBDEhz9jl8BmGLdQZ2Sbfkz7Ne/s692/20221106-bobs-and-elevators.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="540" data-original-width="692" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy2v3BmlEcjC7-EcIX3N6IBFGa-xR-bv6qY1pPPiD_SUcYTeaDj1I-5ovkdsy8QpxP6k49DiQA4EyXOZJM-rGV2wpX82lSsocnwSuBhPUW3l3oiEaq4xof7629RmRmnEjX1KeaIrTdvPA0bmQ0P05StunXTTk0khvBDEhz9jl8BmGLdQZ2Sbfkz7Ne/s320/20221106-bobs-and-elevators.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wheelchair Hero with new elevators, NPCs, items, better colors<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p></p><p>Also a little bit of work has been done on <a href="https://amigaalive.blogspot.com/2022/06/aadevlog-4-aros-and-amigaos-text-editor.html" target="_blank">"reed" texteditor</a>: a little update to the GUI layout, and it now shows actual settings' values.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSwEP1TZM0V0vO-3zUXDrSHEhrUH9N9Y0NHzcOPbK9nnan_D4XKE-iGm0HnkhBB0oZTvmcWdyPJ7XyokzQb8UIEOr5h50kNtJcx9ecLI6hY-dW0SiNboYb5iEi_ko0iKmCkcBWVc2m-veEnDjXwsw7xEz7FssxViXqA0GJQuNTtKRZ9_IUxJ7JbObA/s561/20221224-layout-update.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="445" data-original-width="561" height="254" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSwEP1TZM0V0vO-3zUXDrSHEhrUH9N9Y0NHzcOPbK9nnan_D4XKE-iGm0HnkhBB0oZTvmcWdyPJ7XyokzQb8UIEOr5h50kNtJcx9ecLI6hY-dW0SiNboYb5iEi_ko0iKmCkcBWVc2m-veEnDjXwsw7xEz7FssxViXqA0GJQuNTtKRZ9_IUxJ7JbObA/s320/20221224-layout-update.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">"reed" on AmigaOS3.9<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p>And while we're at it: When creating a game, why not create two? WinUAE, IBrowse, and AmigaAMP have received (sometimes substantial) updates.</b></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">WinUAE 4.10.0<br /></h3><p>WinUAE is the king of Amiga emulation. You can read about all the details on WinUAE's homepage, but here's the big one in this latest release: 100% cycle accuracy! Oh wow, this is a blessing not just for hardcore classic gamers and sceners, but for all Amiga software developers. Very good!<br /></p><p><b>Go to <a href="https://www.winuae.net" target="_blank">https://www.winuae.net</a> for more information!</b><br /></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">IBrowse 2.5.8<br /></h3><p>IBrowse developer team, again, proves its dedication to Amiga webbrowsing: this latest version contains all hotfixes since the previous one, and adds a round of new bugfixes and improvements, such as re-enabled Gemini protocol support and better stability.<br /></p><p><b>Check out <a href="https://www.ibrowse-dev.net/news.php?id=1671191636" target="_blank">https://www.ibrowse-dev.net/news.php?id=1671191636</a> for more information!</b></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">AmigaAMP 3.33<br /></h3><p>Thomas Wenzel wishes everyone a Merry Christmas, and has released AmigaAMP 3.33. Developers seem to have become increasingly productive - in 2022, new Amiga games have been and still are popping up like mushrooms after a warm, rainy day.</b></p><p style="text-align: left;"><b> </b><br /></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Maria Renard's Revenge</h2><p style="text-align: left;">Pretty much whenever you hear something French, you can be sure it has beauty and taste. ("French fries" ;-) ) This is certainly true for this outstandingly beautiful new game, which is currently under development by DomKid. </p><p style="text-align: left;">As the title suggests, Mademoiselle Renard is a bit of a damsel-in-distress, meaning in order to get her revenge, she has to travel various dungeons and landscapes populated with dragons, skeletons, giant worms, and other such species, and of course avoid being harmed by the aforementioned. A friendly bird is at her side, but darkness, lava pits, falling stalactites and similar obstacles don't particularly make her journey easier...</p><p style="text-align: left;">Long story short: "Maria Renard's Revenge" is an exciting, and just gorgeous looking gothic platformer!<br /></p><b>Here's the latest work-in-progress video from <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0ma8cqM0r5EQOiIoExZG7A" target="_blank">DomKid's YouTube channel</a> (2022-05-23):</b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_7jeh_pljRs" width="320" youtube-src-id="_7jeh_pljRs"></iframe><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7jeh_pljRs</span><br /></div><p style="text-align: left;"><b>Go to the game's website for more information and releases:<br /><a href="https://z-team.itch.io/maria-renards-revenge" target="_blank">https://z-team.itch.io/maria-renards-revenge</a></b><br /></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p style="text-align: left;"> </p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Karate Champ 500 (work in progress)</h2><p style="text-align: left;">Jean-François Fabre never stops: After <a href="https://amigaalive.blogspot.com/2022/06/games-galore-30-final-fight-enhanced.html" target="_blank">"Amidar500", "Scramble500",</a> <a href="https://amigaalive.blogspot.com/2021/10/games-galore-26-abu-simbel-profanation.html" target="_blank">"Pacman 500"</a>, and <a href="https://amigaalive.blogspot.com/2022/06/games-galore-27-turbo-tomato-ms-pac-man.html" target="_blank">"Ms Pacman 500"</a> (!) we're about to get "Karate Champ 500".</p><p style="text-align: left;">"Karate Champ" is another classic arcade game, but there was never an official version for the Amiga - only a slightly disappointing public-domain version. </p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><p style="text-align: left;">Well, it looks as if this is about to change, and with Jean-Fran<a class="yt-simple-endpoint style-scope yt-formatted-string" dir="auto" href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBw_5pJwrP7nY9uVyuMrOpQ" spellcheck="false">ç</a>ois Fabre's productions you can be quite sure it's going to be yet another great Amiga conversion, which is more or less pixel perfect to the original.<br /></p><p style="text-align: left;"><b>Here's the latest demo video from <a class="yt-simple-endpoint style-scope yt-formatted-string" dir="auto" href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBw_5pJwrP7nY9uVyuMrOpQ" spellcheck="false">Jean-François Fabre's YouTube channel</a> (2022-10-02): </b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1NWE23H0W78" width="320" youtube-src-id="1NWE23H0W78"></iframe><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NWE23H0W78</span><br /></div><p></p><p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Additional sources:<br />https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karate_Champ (arcade game)<br />http://hol.abime.net/6228/weblink (1987 PD game)</span></p><p style="text-align: left;"><br /></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Spheroid (demo)</h2><p style="text-align: left;">In "Spheroid", you have to guide a ball through increasingly complex maps made of tiles. Cows, sheep, chicken? Very good. "Farmiga" puts you in control of a little farming economy, complete with animals, crops, trading, and actual hog-shooting.</p><p style="text-align: left;">The graphics are mostly simple, but cute and effective, there's some enjoyable music playing along, the building and trading has enough depth to keep you occupied, and, well, occasionally you get to shoot some hogs. There had been talk about DEC Alpha CPUs, and other quantum-leap high-performance gear, but only phase5 had the guts to deliver: <a href="http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/cyberstormppc" target="_blank">a dual-CPU board with a PowerPC CPU clocked at 233MHz</a>! A quantum-leap it was, but it also came too late, and was too costly for most. Only a few years later the Amiga market would effectively be dead. Then came the retro movement, people brushing the dust off their old Amiga computers, and their assembler coding skills. Nowadays, we have a thriving hardware and software development scene, all rooted in the good old days: pure Amiga, classic Motorola 68k! If you like some extra speed, you can choose from several low-cost 68000 to 68060 accelerators, FPGA based CPU replacements, and a range of emulation setups, all of which are actively developed in recent times, and run M68k code. PowerPC accelerators have become unobtanium, and the few owners still there from the early days are not enough to make a visible impact on the
scene. </p><p>Imagine this alternate reality: In 2013, 1Ghz PowerPC accelerators for the Amiga became available. By 2015 prices have dropped, and a transparent M68k emulation layer has been implemented for PowerUP/WarpUP. People are running M68k "Real3D" and "Imagine" on PowerPC, because emulation is faster than any available M68k CPU. By 2020, the 2GHz barrier has been broken, and while your PowerPC-native "Blender" port renders HD images for your new YouTube video, you're playing a round of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRFaX3HJtHk&t=471s" target="_blank">DREAD</a>. AmigaOS 3.1.4 and 3.2 were never developed, because AmigaOS3.9 and 4.0 have merged into a single product made of a M68k core for backwards compatibility, and PowerPC-native applications.</p><p>Well - back to actual reality. That was some nice fantasy, it just didn't happen that way.<br /></p><p>...but is was close!<br /></p><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ygD3J67V5Jo/YY1-00g-sLI/AAAAAAAABDY/gHzpM79vAI4zWSolBmVm5U4KaFplzcD9wCLcBGAsYHQ/s924/ultimateppc-logo.jpg"><img border="0" data-original-height="292" data-original-width="924" height="101" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ygD3J67V5Jo/YY1-00g-sLI/AAAAAAAABDY/gHzpM79vAI4zWSolBmVm5U4KaFplzcD9wCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/ultimateppc-logo.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><p>It was called UltimatePPC, and... yes. That's sad. </p><p>Well, we have to put this into context. It was 2011: Amiga companies had been out of business for years. Compared to about 10 years earlier, when phase5's PPC accelerators were released, the price of RAM modules vs. memory size had dropped through the floor. The cellphone market had exploded, pushing for ever more powerful low-cost CPUs. The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi" target="_blank">RaspberryPi</a> was just around the corner, and a modern homebrew/DIY scene, capable of SMD-soldering, started to emerge. From this point of view, it's no surprise the "UltimatePPC" was quite a quantum leap for the Amiga.</p><p>And it's also no surprise that it just stopped. Development of such a piece of hardware consumes an awful amount of time. If there's no competition, no audience asking for progress and providing some sort of income, no urging necessity behind it, then at some point it will just come to a halt, one or the other way. Since 2011, a lot of things have happened. It has become even easier to design and create printed circuit boards, FPGA chips have become powerful and affordable, and so on. The retro builder scene, and emulation on fast CPUs, has fully taken over, cementing the M68k heritage and future of the Amiga. "Next generation" Amiga computing is just being swept away by the renewed output of the classic scene.<br /></p><p>But then... <br /></p><p>...it's just too awesome. The "UltimatePPC" is incomplete - but it exists, somewhere. Wouldn't it be an intriguing idea to completely restart as if it was 2011, and resurrect the "UltimatePPC" with all the tools and know-how available in 2022?<br /></p><p></p><p style="text-align: center;"><b> * * *</b><br /></p><p>UPDATE 2022-12-26: <br />Thank you very much, amiga-news.de, for <a href="http://amiga-news.de/de/news/AN-2022-12-00039-DE.html" target="_blank">reporting about this</a>! </p><p>And for providing more information: amiga-news.de's post about the UltimatePPC from back in the day: <a href="http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2012-05-00055-EN.html" target="_blank">http://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2012-05-00055-EN.html</a></p><p style="text-align: center;"><b>* * *</b><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;">PLEASE NOTE: "phase5" refers to the company that was developing Amiga compatible hardware from around 1992 to 2000.
